What is a soldering iron?
A soldering iron is an electric tool that heats up to the melting point. It is a source of thermal energy used to heat different materials (aluminium, brass, steel, copper, stainless steel, etc.) in order to consolidate or solder them. The soldering iron is used in construction and industry for its reputation of producing single-piece parts (fusion welding) or reinforcing different materials.
The fusion welding technique is fundamentally the same as the manual arc welding method, except that it is automated to reduce the time and effort required. Fusion welding is a welding process that requires heating an element (the material to be welded) to its melting point. At this point, the material melts and the second part to be welded is easily put in place. The material to be soldered is then heated to its melting point and the two pieces are placed next to each other. The iron’s temperature is adjusted to reach the melting temperature of the material to be soldered. When the iron’s temperature reaches that of the material, it begins to melt and spread over the material, then spreads throughout until it is fully welded. Fusion welding is a form of welding that uses intense heat to weld one material to another. The applied heat is used to change the internal structure of the material, causing the two pieces to melt together.
