Simple protection for high voltage transformers: Technical and Assembly Instructions
Ensure the performance and safety of your luminous signs thanks to this installation guide dedicated to Siet high voltage transformers. Renowned for their reliability in powering cold cathode lamps and neon tubes, the METALBOX series models require strict compliance with the assembly standards below.
Safety Instructions for Siet High Voltage Transformers
To guarantee the longevity of your installation and avoid any electrical risk, compliance with the following prerequisites is mandatory when handling Siet high voltage transformers:
Load verification: The secondary current must imperatively be between 80% and 100% of the nominal value. Always check voltage/frequency compatibility on the nameplate.
Earthing: The safety of Siet high voltage transformers relies on correct earthing of all metallic parts (sign and transformer).
HV cabling management: To avoid capacitive effects and humming, limit the length of high voltage cables. Keep them away from metallic structures or use insulating cable glands.
Spacing and ventilation: Never install the device in a confined space. Maintain a distance of 80 mm between two transformers to ensure adequate ventilation.
Authorised Mounting Positions
The sealing and warranty of Siet high voltage transformers METALBOX depend on their positioning:
Indoors (dry): All mounting positions are permitted.
Outdoors (exposed to weather): Only the specific positions indicated on the diagrams guarantee the protection rating (IP). Any other position risks damaging the transformer irreversibly.
On terrace or balcony: In case of horizontal installation, raise the device (min. 10 cm) using suitable supports to avoid contact with standing water.

Cabling and EN 50143 Standards
For an installation compliant with Siet high voltage transformer standards:
Use exclusively Type B, C, G, H, or K cables (EN 50143 standard).
Prohibition: Never use shielded cables.
Ensure the "T" (sealing plug) is correctly inserted into the low voltage cable housing.
Electrical Protection and Bridge Configuration
Siet high voltage transformers of the METALBOX type have two secondaries with an isolated central tap (Terminal "E"). The configuration of the bridge (strap) in the terminal block is crucial:
Standard configuration: Bridge "P" (black part in the terminal block) must remain in place.
With DISTOP / INTERDISTOP protection: Remove bridge "P" only if you are installing a Siet brand earth leakage or open circuit protection device.
Compatibility warning: Protections from other manufacturers are not compatible with Siet high voltage transformers (as per EN 50107).
DIMMERBOX case: If a regulator is used, remove type A protections, replace bridge "P" and install a specific protection module upstream (MODULAR DISTOP).
