Good to know

What is a stabilised 12 V power supply?

A stabilised (or regulated) power supply delivers a DC voltage that does not change with the load: it stays at 12 V whether the equipment draws a little or a lot. That is what LED strips, cameras and sensitive electronics need. By contrast, an unfiltered rectified supply rises in voltage with no load.

The IP67 waterproof 12 V power supply comes in 60, 80, 100, 150, 200 and 300 W, with an aluminium housing and protection against overcurrent, short circuit and overvoltage. For indoor use, a compact 12 V power supply from 60 to 200 W is also available.

These units deliver a fixed 12 V output: we do not sell adjustable laboratory power supplies.

Choosing the rating

Add up the power of the equipment being powered and keep about 20% of the rating in reserve: a switch-mode supply lasts longer when loaded to around 80% of its rating. For indoor lighting, see our LED drivers; for motors and higher power up to 1,000 VA, our rectified AC/DC power supplies.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between a stabilised and a rectified power supply?

A stabilised supply regulates its voltage, which stays at 12 V whatever the load. An unfiltered rectified supply delivers a voltage that depends on the current drawn and rises with no load.

Do you sell adjustable bench power supplies?

No: our stabilised power supplies have a fixed 12 V output.

Which stabilised power supply for outdoor use?

The IP67 waterproof power supply, from 60 to 300 W.

How much headroom should I allow?

Keep about 20% of the rating in reserve: a switch-mode supply loaded to around 80% of its rating lasts longer.
