How to choose: Special transformers
An MV/LV substation?
Ground-mounted (H59) or pole-mounted (H61): an oil-immersed three-phase transformer, on request.
H59 / H61 transformerNo oil?
A cast resin dry-type transformer has its windings encapsulated in epoxy resin: no liquid, so no risk of leaks.
Cast resin transformersA specific machine?
An HP Indigo press, an unusual voltage, fixed dimensions: a dedicated or custom-built transformer, quoted within 48 h.

Good to know
Our special transformers
Some requirements fall outside our standard ranges: a distribution substation, a building where oil is not wanted, a machine that needs a specific supply. Our special transformers:
- H59 / H61 oil-immersed transformer: a three-phase MV/LV distribution transformer for a ground-mounted (H59) or pole-mounted (H61) substation, on request.
- Cast resin dry-type transformer: an MV/LV transformer whose windings are encapsulated in epoxy resin, with no liquid, on request.
- Three-phase transformer for HP printers: for HP Indigo digital presses, from 25 to 125 kVA, with a price shown for each power rating.
For low-voltage applications with voltages or a power rating outside our catalogue, our custom-built transformers can be configured online, with the price displayed.
Oil-immersed MV/LV transformers: H59 and H61
An MV/LV transformer steps the medium voltage of a distribution network down to the low voltage used on site: 400 V between phases and 230 V between phase and neutral. In the UK, the same unit is often called an HV/LV transformer.
The H59 and H61 are oil-immersed three-phase transformers: the H59 is ground-mounted, inside a substation; the H61 is mounted on a pole. Both are available on request: tell us the network voltage, the output voltage, the power rating and the type of substation.
Cast resin dry-type transformers
In a cast resin transformer, the windings are encapsulated in epoxy resin and cooled by air: there is no oil, and therefore no risk of leaks. It is often chosen for a substation inside a building. We offer it on request, based on the network voltage, the power rating and the enclosure you require.
Transformer for HP Indigo presses
Our three-phase transformer for HP printers supplies HP Indigo digital presses: input 3 × 410 V, output 3 × 400 V with neutral, in 25, 40, 75, 100 or 125 kVA depending on the press. It is supplied in an IP23 ventilated enclosure, with terminal block connections. Like our low-voltage three-phase transformers, it is wound and tested in our workshop in Gailhan. Tell us your press model and we will confirm the right power rating.
Requesting a special transformer
For an accurate quote on a special transformer, dedicated or custom-built, please tell us:
- the input and output voltages, single-phase or three-phase;
- the power rating, in VA or kVA;
- the installation: indoors or outdoors, the IP rating, the space available;
- the options: tappings, vector group, thermal protection;
- the quantity: a one-off or a batch.
To replace an existing transformer, include a photo of its rating plate and its dimensions. Request your quote: we reply within 48 h. At low voltage, a custom-built transformer takes 48 h to one week to manufacture, depending on the power rating.
A transformer manufacturer in Gailhan since 1993
ABL Transfo has been making transformers since 1993 in Gailhan, in the Gard, between Nîmes and Montpellier in southern France. Our low-voltage single-phase and three-phase transformers, our toroidal transformers and our autotransformers are wound and 100 % tested there. For a 400 V machine, see also our three-phase transformers. For professionals, a trade account shows prices excluding VAT with a 5 % discount, and white-label supply is possible.
Frequently asked questions
What is a special transformer?
A transformer for a special application that our standard ranges do not cover: MV/LV distribution, a substation without oil, a machine that needs a particular supply. Special transformers are supplied on quotation, except the transformer for HP Indigo presses, whose product page shows a price for each power rating.
What is an MV/LV transformer?
A distribution transformer that steps the medium voltage of the network down to the low voltage of a site: 400 V between phases and 230 V between phase and neutral. In the UK it is often called an HV/LV transformer. We offer oil-immersed (H59, H61) and cast resin dry-type units on request.
What is the difference between an H59 and an H61 transformer?
Both are three-phase MV/LV oil-immersed transformers: the H59 is ground-mounted, in a substation, while the H61 is pole-mounted. We offer them on request.
Oil-immersed or dry-type transformer: which should I choose?
Oil-immersed transformers are used in ground-mounted and pole-mounted substations. A cast resin dry-type transformer, with its windings encapsulated in resin, contains no liquid: it is often chosen for a substation inside a building. We will advise you when we prepare your quote.
Which transformer do I need for an HP Indigo press?
Our three-phase transformer for HP printers: input 3 × 410 V, output 3 × 400 V with neutral, from 25 to 125 kVA depending on the press. Tell us your press model and we will confirm the power rating.
How long does it take to get a quote?
We reply within 48 h. At low voltage, a custom-built transformer then takes 48 h to one week to manufacture, depending on the power rating.
Can you replace an existing transformer?
Send us a photo of its rating plate and its dimensions with your quote request: we will tell you whether an equivalent standard model exists; if not, we will quote for a custom-built transformer.
