Our neon transformers for illuminated signs

A neon transformer, or neon sign transformer (NST), steps the 230 V mains up to the high voltage that lights the tubes of an illuminated sign. We supply SIET Resinblock transformers in four current ratings, each available from 1,000 to 10,000 V:

Each model comes without protection, with single protection or with double protection. Both types of protection are also sold separately: single protection and double protection for high-voltage transformers.

The Resinblock transformer

The Resinblock transformer is encapsulated in epoxy resin inside a steel case treated to resist corrosion. It can be mounted horizontally or vertically, indoors or outdoors, and complies with EN 61050, the standard for high-voltage transformers for discharge tubes. For obvious safety reasons, it does not work without its cover.

Choosing a neon transformer: current and voltage

You only need two values, both shown on the rating plate of the original transformer:

  • The current, in milliamperes: 25, 50, 75 or 100 mA. It depends on the tubes in the sign.
  • The output voltage, from 1,000 to 10,000 V (1 to 10 kV): it depends on the length and number of tubes to be supplied. Each product page gives the reference, weight and dimensions for every voltage.

For a new sign, the voltage and current are specified by the sign manufacturer. If in doubt, call us on +33 4 66 80 14 33 with the details from the old transformer's rating plate.

Which protection: none, single or double?

The protection fits inside the transformer, under the cover, and protects it against overvoltages and short circuits. For a transformer installed indoors, we recommend single protection; outdoors, we strongly recommend double protection.

Safety: installation by a professional

A neon transformer delivers a high voltage, from 1,000 to 10,000 V: installing or replacing one is a job for a sign maker or a qualified electrician, with the power switched off. A neon transformer only supplies neon tubes: LED signs run on extra-low-voltage DC and need an LED power supply.

Availability and lead times

Supply of SIET neon transformers is very tight. Before ordering, call us on +33 4 66 80 14 33, Monday to Friday, 8 am to 6 pm French time, to check stock: when a model is out of stock, the supply lead time ranges from 1 to 5 months. For any other high-voltage requirement, request a quote: we reply within 48 hours.

No: it delivers a high voltage for neon tubes. An LED sign runs on extra-low-voltage DC and needs an LED power supply.

Do you manufacture these neon transformers?

No: they are SIET Resinblock transformers, which we distribute. The transformers we manufacture in our workshop in Gailhan, in the Gard (southern France), are low-voltage transformers.
