The 230V 12V power supply by ABL Transfo converts the 230 VAC mains supply to 12 VDC direct current. Built around a low-frequency transformer and a diode bridge mounted on a heat sink, it provides superior surge resistance and longevity compared to switching power supplies. Available in IP00, IP23 or IP54 depending on your environment.

How does this 230V 12V power supply work?

Transformation
The single-phase transformer steps down 230 VAC to low-voltage AC.

Rectification
The diode bridge, fixed on the heat sink bolted to the transformer, converts AC to pulsed DC.

Output under load
The output voltage depends on the current drawn — 12 VDC at rated power.
⚠ Key point: no-load voltage vs loaded voltage
- No load (unloaded): voltage ≈ 17–18 VDC — normal behaviour for an unfiltered rectified supply.
- At rated load: voltage drops to 12 VDC when the device draws the rated power of the supply.
- At partial load: if you connect 100 W to a 600 VA supply, the voltage will exceed 12 V. Choose a power rating that matches your actual consumption.

What is the difference between this 230V 12V supply and a switching power supply?
This 230V 12V power supply is low-frequency (transformer + diode bridge). It is more resistant to short overloads, generates less high-frequency interference and offers greater longevity. The trade-off is that the output voltage varies with load — it is not regulated.
Can it be used to charge a 12V battery?
Yes. The no-load voltage (17–18 VDC) is compatible with almost all 12V charge regulators and battery chargers (lead-acid, AGM). Under rated load the voltage settles at 12 VDC.
What power rating for a 300 W 12V motor?
300 W ÷ 12 V = 25 A. For inductive loads, add 20–30% margin and account for the inrush current at start-up. The 400 VA / 33 A model provides comfortable, long-lasting operation.
What output connection does the IP54 version have?
The IP54 version is supplied with H07RNF cable outputs, suited to damp environments and outdoor installations. The IP00 and IP23 versions have screw terminal outputs.
