What is a custom-made three-phase transformer?
A custom-made three-phase transformer is an electrical transformer with three primary and three secondary windings, designed to precisely adapt to the needs of an industrial installation. It allows adapting the voltage of a three-phase network — whether 400V, 690V or any other value — to the voltage required by a machine or equipment.
The custom-made version goes further: you define the primary voltage, secondary voltage, power, coupling (Dyn11, Dd11, Ynd11 or Ynyn11), winding (copper or aluminium) and protection rating. ABL Transfo then manufactures your custom three-phase transformer in its French workshops.
Delivered in IP21 enclosure, with connections on terminal block. It does not convert three-phase to single-phase — for this, see our tri/mono range.
⚡ Which coupling for your custom three-phase transformer?
The coupling defines how the primary and secondary windings are interconnected. It determines the phase shift and whether a neutral is available on the secondary side.
Dyn11 — Delta/Star+Neutral
The most common in Europe. Primary in delta (400V), secondary in star with neutral. Ideal for mixed mono/three-phase loads.
Dd11 — Delta/Delta
No secondary neutral. Used for pure three-phase loads (motors, industrial furnaces). Robust against load imbalances.
Ynd11 — Star+N/Delta
Primary in star with neutral (HTA network), secondary in delta. Typical for HTA/LV distribution.
Ynyn11 — Star+N/Star+N
Neutral available on both sides. For distribution systems where neutral is needed at input and output.

What is a custom-made three-phase transformer?
A custom-made three-phase transformer adapts the voltage of a three-phase network to the voltage required by a machine or installation. It is "custom-made" because its parameters — primary voltage, secondary voltage, power, coupling — are defined to your exact needs, unlike standard fixed-voltage models.
What is the difference between Dyn11 and Dd11 coupling?
Dyn11 (delta/star+neutral) is the European standard: it provides a neutral on the secondary side, allowing both mono and three-phase loads to be fed. Dd11 (delta/delta) has no secondary neutral — reserved for pure three-phase loads (motors, furnaces). If in doubt, choose Dyn11.
Copper or aluminium winding for my custom three-phase transformer?
Copper winding offers better efficiency, smaller size and longer service life — recommended for continuous industrial use. Aluminium winding is more economical and suitable for less demanding applications.
Can a custom three-phase transformer convert three-phase to single-phase?
No. A custom three-phase transformer adapts voltage between two three-phase networks. For three-phase to single-phase conversion, see our tri/mono transformers.
What is the lead time for a custom-made three-phase transformer?
4 days to 2 weeks for powers up to 100 kVA, and 4 to 5 weeks above 100 kVA. Made to order — no returns or exchanges once in production.
How do I choose the power of my three-phase transformer?
Take the total consumed power in kVA (or convert: P(kVA) = P(kW) / cos φ, with cos φ ≈ 0.8 for motors). Add 20 to 30% margin for start-up peaks. If in doubt, contact our team for free sizing.
