Technical Guide: Siet High Voltage Transformers (METALBOX Series)
To ensure the reliability of your cold cathode neon signs, rigorous implementation is essential. This guide details the technical specificities of Siet high voltage transformers, renowned for their robustness, and assists you in their installation according to manufacturer standards (Brollo Siet).
Electrical Prerequisites and Precautions
The installation of Siet high voltage transformers requires compliance with precise parameters to ensure the safety of property and people:
Load Adequacy: Optimal operation is guaranteed when the secondary current fluctuates between 80% and 100% of its nominal capacity. Ensure strict correspondence of mains voltage and frequency.
Earthing: It is imperative to earth the transformer as well as all metal parts making up the sign.
Interference Management: To prevent undesirable capacitive effects (humming), high voltage cables must be as short as possible. Keep them away from metal surfaces and use insulating cable grommets if necessary.
Ventilation: A minimum free space of 80 mm is required between two devices. Absolutely avoid installation in unventilated recesses.
Layout and Mounting Rules
The longevity of your Siet high voltage transformers directly depends on their exposure to external elements.
In Protected Environments (Indoor): The device can be fixed in any direction.
In Exposed Environments (Outdoor): Respecting the mounting direction is critical for waterproofing. Only configurations validated by technical diagrams preserve the integrity of the device (see illustrations). Any other positioning voids the warranty.
Installation on Flat Ground (Roof/Terrace): Never place the device directly on the ground. Use supports of at least 10 cm to avoid any contact with stagnant rainwater.
Choice of Cables and Connection
Wiring of Siet high voltage transformers must comply with the EN 50143 standard.
Authorised Cables: Use types B, C, G, H, or K.
To be Avoided: The use of shielded cables is strictly prohibited on these models.
Low Voltage: Check that the "T" locking tab is correctly positioned in the housing provided for this purpose.
Management of Protections and the "P" Bridge
The METALBOX range is distinguished by its two separate secondaries with an earthed midpoint (Terminal "E"). Managing the bridge (jumper) located in the terminal block is essential for configuring safety features.
Standard Operation: Leave the "P" bridge (black part) in place in the terminal block.
Installation of a Siet Safety Device (DISTOP/INTERDISTOP): This is the only case where you must remove the "P" bridge. This activates protection against open circuits or earth leakages.
Incompatibilities: Do not use protections from other brands; they are not adapted to Siet high voltage transformers.
Special Case (Dimming): If you install a DIMMERBOX dimmer, do not remove the "P" bridge and do not use classic protections (Type A). Instead, opt for a "MODULAR DISTOP" protection placed upstream of the power line.
